An apology is worth a listen. The words I’m sorry can reach your heart like a moon on a haunting night. As bright as its size allows and only as whole as it can be. Carrying with it the best that it can do. It might be exactly what you need. Or it may seem small and not enough. You may want more. It might be too big, too scary, and you may want less. It might not feel finished. It might feel far away and out of reach. The apology, though, will travel with you as you move on in life. It’s there. And somewhere along your journey you may realize it was wrapped in light and holding all the understanding it could like the moon. You know it was real and it’s yours to accept in time if you choose.
An apology is worth giving. It might not seem big enough or complete. You might not know what will happen or if it matters. You may want to make things better, but you know that you can’t. You think the words won’t be heard. Have the courage to give the little light you have left and the awareness of regret you are clutching to, to someone. Say I’m sorry. Say it and let them go. They may find it in their heart chamber when the time is right and they may accept it was the best you could do. They may someday hold your apology up, look at it, and see it was real and as whole as the moon can be on any given night.
